Assessment & Development Centre

An assessment and development centre is a method of selection and/or development that is used to assess individuals. It also gives individuals greater insight into their own strengths and areas for development and how they act and react in different situations under varying levels of pressure. They also gain an understanding of how their behaviour is perceived by and affects others.

The tool uses several different bases for assessment to produce an objective and standardised assessment of an individual's character traits, competence and skills.

Assessment & development centres are typically used:
  • For selection and development of top management
  • For developing and challenging elements of talent management programmes aimed at high potentials or other selected groups to enable potential among individuals and groups to be observed and verified
  • To skim off the most suitable candidates in major recruitment campaigns involving a large number of candidates (e.g. for a trainee programme)
  • As one stage in a process to test different candidates' suitability for a certain role/position
