Thank you very much for your interest in our new Director of Research Impact and Development role. I hope that the details set out in our microsite provide you with all the information you need to fully consider this exciting opportunity.
It’s important to start with the purpose of this role – to lead a portfolio or ‘remit’ of activity, within and beyond the two teams in this new directorate, to get academic knowledge into the hands of those best placed to use it. This isn’t to assume linear or a simple transfer mechanism, it will be essential to through great empathy to develop and sustain professional relationships with neighbouring remits in the Research and Enterprise Division (RED), other Professional Service, Faculty staff and our researchers. Then outside with investors, incubators, corporates, start-ups, funders – every part of the value chain. Others have the key to your success and vice versa.
Frankly, this new Research Impact and Development remit has been created to have this role – to be visible and, excuse the pun, impactful. The two teams are ‘Research Commercialisation’ and ‘Impact Development’, both with exceptional talent and creativity. We have achieved much in RED, but we are not complacent. There are two current projects of significance, i) The new Bristol Grid Platform, joining up the many entrepreneurial pathways and ii) Bristol Innovations, a possible new platform with an integrating brand and mechanisms to align our ambitions.
RED has spent the last two and half years aligning its activities into a value chain and invested in developing a positive inclusive culture that addresses issues and challenges bad behaviours. We work very closely with our academic colleagues and entrepreneurial communities towards positive impact.
You will find all the information about the role and what we’re looking for in our microsite, as well as links to additional information and key documents. It is an exciting time to be joining us and we are looking forward to hearing about you.
